I just got a new tattoo two days ago. My artist told me the best thing to use is Aquaphor. What do you think?
oh and a few people have told me to use Satin antimicrobial soap in the shower to clean it. I’ve used it twice and it’s looks fine. But I saw that “fragrance” was an ingredient. I thought you can’t use anything with a scent. Another question is I work at a restaurant and I’m required to wear these dickies that are quite tight and my tattoo is on my upper thigh. Is there anything can do to help that situation? Put paper towel over it for the few hours I work? How many times a day do I wash it? and how many times a day should I put Aquaphor on it?
thank you so much

whoops
just meant to put this link
I hate that I can’t edit my questions/details after they’re submitted. I look like a doofus.
Aight, all that really matters right now is letting it get as much air as possible without drying it out, at LEAST try to wash it 3-4 times a day and everytime you do put the Aquaphor on it, the stuff you put on it doesn’t matter too much. i used TattooGoo. . anything that keeps your skin from drying up, try not to use scents
all that matters is consistency
you don’t want the scabbing to take out too much ink.
but don’t sweat it, it’s just like taking care of an open cut, just make sure it’s clean and your not rubbin on it all the time, so yes use the paper towels
Just wash it in the shower. When mine were new, I used A&D Ointment to keep them moist. If you’re worried about your clothes rubbing put some thin gauze on it while you’re working, but make sure you give it plenty of air when you’re not at work.
CONTACT YOUR ARTIST!!!
Any good studio would have given you aftercare instructions and have aftercare lotion to use.
Not taking care of it correctly and as per their instructions can result in your tattoo not turning out and needing more touch up than normal.
First touch ups are free. . but if you screw up in the care and it turns out like crap. . they may charge you to redo the tattoo. .
If you are concerned about fragrance contact the studio and discuss their choice of aftercare. Most good studios offer more than one alternative due to allergic reactions
As for the dickie issue- this should have been considered when chosing the location of the tattoo- see if there is an alternative at work-
if not try not to use anything that will leave fibers or will make the tattoo sweat or moist (paper towel & plastic wrap- not advised)
If you can find clean bandage that fits that description using it for as short of periods as possible should be ok
Treat it like an open wound and care for it the best you can. Don’t inflict more trauma to it than necessary.
It should have had a good hot hot short shower a couple hrs after the tattoo to get the blood out and prevent scabbing.
After that. . regular good hygiene is all you need. If you or it are dirty- shower. Don’t bathe or soak, just shower like normal keep it clean and keep as many standard bathroom chemicals off it as possible (shampoo, shave cream etc. )
Air dry the tattoo and keep towels away as they contain bacteria.
Sorry. . never heard of Aquaphor. The acceptable aftercare here is A&D and AfterInk. We don’t even advise Tattoo Goo.
Call your artist tomorrow and get their advice. . . if you are worried about how you have cared for it so far. . . go and see them. . .
Asking here should give you advise but the advise of your tattoo artist is the most important to follow.
They are familiar with the situation regarding your tattoo. They can see how the work uniform is affecting your tattoo and give you the best answer because they can have a visual.
They would prefer to help you so the tattoo turns out instead of not helping you and you choose a method that could do damage to your tattoo.
use sunscreen
Ok, so i asked the same question and no one gave me an exact answer. I got mine 2 weeks ago and im using Aquaphor. It works sooo good, my tattoo is pretty much healed and it didnt fade or anything. I wouldnt put a paper towel over it because it might stick, u can try gauze and medical tape to keep the gauze on. And i put Aquaphor on it about 3-4 times a day. I wash it but i rub my hands together with the soap in it and kind of just let it fall on the tattoo. My soap has fragrance and its fine. u cant find much soap without fragrance anyway. haha. Also when ur tattoo gets itchy (and trust me it will) get a really cold wash cloth and press it against the tattoo. dont rub just press into the spots that are really itchy.
GOOD LUCK and i hope i helped!
