uh did u know permanent tattoos can harm your blood, because needles are like painting through and the colors can go through skin causing chemical reactions.

  3. david536259 says:

Doesn’t sound normal – go and see a doctor ASAP in case you have picked up an infection.

  4. **LoVeLiFe** says:

it depends how swollen mine raised up but of your worried go back they will tell you if its right or not. if you don’t live in the same town see a doctor better to be safe then sorry!

  5. Monkeyboo says:

Just put some ice on it, if it dosent help go back to the artist or a doctor. GOOD LUCK

  6. Sam C says:

well it could be or it could be your allergic to something in the ink i would get it checked out

  7. misspriss070807 says:

It could be a different kind of ink this time. Is the swelling due to the scab, or has it scabbed yet? You could call the artist and ask, I don’t think that it is a big problem, but for assurance I would call the artist.

  8. maverickrld says:

No! Your arm will fall off soon. Seriously, go to A&E or see a doctor soon!

  9. Criss Loyal says:

I would say that isn’t normal but I haven’t yet to get a tattoo but My brother did get a large tattoo and his didnt swell so you might want to go and see a doctor.

  10. Grinchy says:

Yeah, somewhat. It’s a large tattoo, which means it probably took a long time to do, and your skin’s not happy. With swelling, the 3rd day is usually the worst, then it goes down. However, if it’s really bothering you, talk to a doctor or the tattoo place about how to deal with it.

depends. . . if it is red around the edges it means you have an infection. and if so i would see a doctor asap. if not treated complications could cause you to screw up your new tattoo or maybe your arm. . . i’ve gotten many tattoos over the years, some got a little puffy for a day or two but never swollen. . i’d get it checked out.

  13. memnarch says:

Well, you just got yourself stuck with a needle to inject dye into your skin. I would think that it is pretty natural for your body to be freaking out about now. Unfortunately, it may also be something wrong with the incision (Don’t quote me, I have no idea what I’m talking about; I have never gotten a tattoo) and you might have a minor infection.

get it looked at by a doctor

It’s normal for there to be some swelling. I’d ice it down a bit and take a couple of asprin. My arm was a swollen and bruised after I got my tattoo and within a week afterwards it was fine. If the swelling lasts more than a week I’d get with the artist.

  16. Gray Wanderer says:

I will NOT reassure you. When I was working in the ER we had a patient who waited too long to get his arm looked at when that same thing happened to him, they had to remove all the skin, from the back of his hand to his shoulder to clear the infection surgically, then do months worth of skin grafts. The only other option was to amputate the arm.

GET YOUR BUTT TO A DOCTOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have tatts. I also worked EMS for over 20 years, and if your ARM is swollen, it indicates an infection of the connective tissue called cellulitis which can spread and kill you. Some mild swelling at the site is normal, but having your ARM swell is an indication of a problem.

Three people disagree with you living, as indicated by the thumbs down.

Getting a tattoo is not normal so I guess the side effects are not normal either.

Shouldn’t your tattooist have explained the likely side effects or was he just after your money?

Did you get red ink in your image? It could be an allergic reaction (which is pretty common with red inks). It could just be a small rebellion on your body’s part, but essentially o. k.
What you need to do is treat your arm tattoo like an open wound, because that is what it is, but do not use products like Neosporin etc.
Keep your arm elevated as much as possible. Don’t use that arm, use the other (all the twisting and moving around in normal activity isn’t good).
Take prescription strength ibuprophen (600mg + 3 200mg tablets) every 6 hours for 24 hours. Do excellent aftercare, = wash with antibacterial soap with clean hands (no clothes), do not soak, no direct streams of water, pat dry with clean paper towels, air dry a bit, apply a light coating of Lubriderm unscented. If you are using an ointment, stop this and switch to Lubriderm. Pat off any seepage/ink transfer with clean paper towels (no cloth towels), do this 3 – 5 X’s a day, no bandages, keep uncovered. Then leave it alone.
This happened to me on my wrist, and my tattoo looked awful for for the whole 1st week, and settled down by the end of the 2nd. When I had it touched up, and more work done, there was no problems and my body handled the ink just fine the next time around.
If you do not have puss oozing out, you should be fine if you follow above instructions. If you have puss (white) then go to a doctor for an antibiotic.
    You are probably fine.
    good luck~

Yes , it is normal . . in getting a larger tat . . More area that is covered the more your skin tends to irritate . . Just make sure you are keeping it clean . . and taken care of it. Also some parts or your body are more tender then others . . but like I said larger tats tend to swell the body part more cuz of the constant needle poking into the same area . . Congrats on your tat . . .

It sure can be. I never had any arm tats swell on me, until I started getting extensive sleeve sittings every two weeks, then I started to react to the trauma. And swelled up like crazy. Yessir, it sure does happen sometimes. Just hang tight, take some aspirin, and it’ll be fine.

  21. principessa17 says:

you might be having a reaction to the ink, or your arm and that skin just reacted to it differently as a whole then where you have other tattoos. put some ice on it to see if itll go down at all, and then go see a doctor.

  22. BeedleBop says:

It could be one of two things

    1. you have taken an allergic Reaction to the ink

    or

    2. when the tattooist has been tattooing, he may have gripped the skin too hard, causing it to bruise inside – but you cant see the bruising (because of the ink) so it just looks swollen.

Please got to your doctors as soon as possible.

I’m sure you will be fin though.

    I hope i helped.

is there a lot of red in this tattoo? i know i have a hell of a time with red, and so do other people. i got this one big piece on my arm once, and it got so swollen i was freaking out! in the end, it was just a minor infection. do’nt listen to all these people going “no!” and “get to a doctor, oh jesus!” you’re fine. let it dry out just a little, as in, don’t lotion it as often as you might have. do, however, keep washing it with antibacterial soap. i bet the swelling goes down in a day or two. you’ll be just fine. it is absolutely not a big deal. and as a counter-question to you, don’t you hate when people come in here just to shit talk tattoos? it drives me nuts. i don’t go into their areas and shit talk jesus or whatever dumb shit they are into. good luck with your arm man. . . not that you’ll need it.

  24. bluestetson says:

It happens. A friend of mine had her foot tattooed and it swelled up so bad she could hardly walk.

As long as your arm doesn’t feel warm to the touch (warmer than the rest of your body), you should be fine. It’ll go away in the next few days or so.

  25. primereddime says:

its massive trauma on your skin my last tattoo swelled a decent bit on my forearm. sensitive skin, wrong after care, several things can attribute to this just keep it clean and keep plenty of lubriderm on it and you should be fine

  26. mrs. says:

the tattoo i got last night was only swollen for the night. now it’s just raised.

you might want to see your artist to make sure you didn’t get an infection.

  27. I don’t always agree with your posts, but this was dead on, way to go!
