A surface bar? Yeah, those will ALWAYS reject. Don’t get another surface bar if you plan to get it re-pierced in that area. Surface bars have a 90% rejection rate.
I have vampire bites/kiss on my neck (2 micro dermal anchors that look like a vampire bite) and those are the safest for surface piercings. Dermals have a 2% rejection rate, that’s even lower than standard piercings such as lip, or tongue, etc.
Depending on how long you had the bar in and what gauge size it was and your own body, will depend on how long it will take to heal. Eat right and healthy, put H2ocean spray on the area you took the jewelry out and wash daily on and around the wound with antibacterial soap. I’d suggest waiting 7-9 months before even thinking about getting it re-pierced. Give it time to FULLY heal and for it to close up. And if you decide to get that area pierced again, learn from the mistake that surface bars are a waste of money and you should go with dermal anchors. <3
