soak or dab belly button piercing?

By , April 5, 2011 2:26 pm

My piercing is 3 days old, and its not gunky or red or anything.
I use the antiseptic spray given and thats good, but i want to use the salt water to heal it quicker.

Do i have to soak the piercing in the salt water, or can i simply use a q-tip or a cotton bud to dab it around the area?
I ask this because i do not want it to get irritated from the salt nor do i want it to get gunky.

Thanks =]

    I’ve had my bellybutton pierced for a couple years now, and I always used salt water on a q-tip to clean it and keep it from getting infected and gross. I still use it now to keep it clean and un irritated even after several years, so dabbing with a q-tip works great. I’ve never tried soaking it, I don’t really see the point in that :)

    Good luck with your new piercing!

    you can do it either way. for those quick cleanings i would use a q tip but once a day i would mix the salt water in a cup, bend over like im picking something up and put the cup around my belly button and stand back up so the water soaks it. i would leave it on for a few mins and when i was done i would bend back over to remove that cup. make sure you have a paper towel ready because your belly will be a little wet. but either way works. and good for you for being responsible and keeping your belly button clean.

    my piercing people told me not to use both antiseptic and salt water on my bellybutton.

    i soaked mine. you mix 1 cup of hot water and a 1/4 tsp of sea salt. . then pour some in a shot glass and just lay there with it on ur bellybutton. it sucks out all the nasty stuff you can’t see

    I have my belly button pierced in four places, and everytime i used salt water mixed with tea tree oil, and i put it in a spray bottle and sprayed it on a few times a day. IT REALLY WORKS. The spray you buy only cleans it, it doesnt heal it, you need to make up your own solution and i think the spray works the best, it doesnt touch the peircing so it wont hurt, you just spray it on. Hope that helps.
